My Approach to Piano
Hello, my name is Margaret.
I love music and I love teaching! I've been teaching piano lessons for over 11 years—from Idaho to Colorado, then Utah (2021).
I've had 10+ years of formal piano lessons, including 2 years at college for a minor in music. I have four children who had many years of piano lessons and continue to play. I also grew up in a home with older siblings and a parent who played the piano often—which was a source of inspiration for me. That's why I encourage my students to be exposed to a variety of music and perform what they enjoy!

My goal is to offer quality lessons that are engaging and fun while building foundational skills. I utilize listening skills and techniques to accelerate progress rather than solely focusing on note reading. I also work to recognize my students' strengths to better meet their interests and goals with music.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
- Completed courses at BYU-Idaho for a minor in music including: music theory, piano pedagogy, aural skills, and participation in various college choirs.
- Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Education and Family/Human Relations.
- Elementary Music teacher for 1 year.
- Choir pianist for 2 years at another elementary school.
- Several years of Music Federation for piano, and a few years for flute, with Superior ratings.
- Participated in band in middle school and took private flute lessons for 3 years.

I've also enjoyed being involved in numerous performances over the years accompanying large and small ensembles, duets as a teacher, and playing solos.

Lessons and Performances
Lessons are 30 minutes on a weekly basis at a rate of $20 per lesson for adult students, or $70 a month for full time students.
My lesson schedule follows the school district's calendar for the school year. There are no lessons during the fall, spring, and holiday breaks. A few “flexible weeks” are built into the calendar to allow for rescheduling as needed. In case of sickness or a conflict with scheduling, virtual lessons are offered or may be rescheduled.

Lessons during the summer are optional and on a flexible basis. This is also a great option for students who may have a difficult time meeting during the school year.
There are 2 formal recitals during the school year which are usually held at the Farmington library. Recitals will take place in the fall (November) and early spring (March or April). I hold optional performance classes at my home studio in preparation for recitals, and during December to perform Christmas music.
